Check Point: Plug Enterprise Rights Management Server Into Microsoft Sharepoint Server
THE PROBLEM. “Only two companies have ever tried what you’re doing. The other one gave up.” When Microsoft Technical Support tells you that, you know you’re working on something special. Our client, Check Point Software Solutions (formerly Liquid Machines) wanted to be the first company to extend SharePoint with their own enterprise rights management functionality, and with their own developers busy on the next version of their product, they came to Macadamian. Business Needs: The company has expanded significantly since it launched in 2004, and has delivered more than 400 business, sales, and marketing consulting projects for Microsoft partners, generating around £90 million in new business for its clients. ResourceiT has plans for major growth in the coming years, but Simpson is aware of the challenges ahead. “There is constant pressure today to work smarter and faster, while being able to scale quickly. It’s an advantage if programs launch quickly and you can move seamlessly between them. We also need the latest software versions from Microsoft to show Microsoft partners that we understand the technologies with which they work.”
Business Needs: Schahin Group is a Brazilian conglomerate active in the country’s main development sectors: oil and gas, engineering, real estate development, telecommunications, and energy. To support its growth, the firm relies on Microsoft software and HP hardware.
The nature of its business requires Schahin to open temporary operations at major construction sites for a year or two. This means employee counts may fluctuate significantly during the year. As a result, the firm finds it difficult to accurately predict its software licensing needs.
“The success of our business relies on providing a fast, accurate and professional service to our clients. A reliable IT infrastructure is therefore at the heart of our business plan, as we cannot afford any delays or downtime,” says Karen Malone, Managing Director at Centaur Fund Services. “We knew at the outset that we needed an enterprise-class IT system in order to compete with larger competitors on a level playing field. We felt that rather than make one of our first hires an IT admin, the better solution was to choose technology that would give us a high level of automation and work with the right partner to help us manage it.”
Centaur worked with its IT partner, Trilogy Technologies, to identify the technology best suited to its needs, and Trilogy was quick to recommend the potential benefits they could achieve from establishing a virtualized IT infrastructure from the start. “We did a competitive pricing exercise for total cost of ownership over three years comparing Microsoft, Citrix and VMware,” says Malone. “VMware came out comfortably on top and while we were previously more familiar with Citrix, we were hugely impressed with the VMware offering and decided that it made sense to go with the market leader..

Up until May, 2002, most of the 120 applications in the client server area were used in a NT domain. Frequent product changes required countless application updates. The heavy expenditures in troubleshooting and maintenance resulted in a very high level of local administration. For Herbert Medlitsch, Administrator at Rail Cargo Austria, and his team, it was obvious that it would not be possible to continue working long with this arrangement.
Rail Cargo Austria decided to implement Citrix MetaFrame XPe together with Microsoft Windows 2000 Terminal servers. In this context, an adequate print solution was needed, because especially in the production department, time-critical printout in appealing quality and at times in color is necessary…

The Challenges: As a standard regulatory requirement, the bank needed to send frequent reports to the Financial Services Authority and to Jersey Financial Services Commission within an allocated timeframe. The process of liquidity monitoring and reporting was managed within an internal MS Access database and required half a day of employee time to complete, on a daily basis. Reporting to regulatory bodies was conducted when necessary by email. While the system provided adequate results, it was a stand-alone solution and so did not reconcile with other systems.
Our Solution: C5 designed and developed a Microsoft SQL Server based solution, to automate all of the bank’s Offshore liquidity monitoring and reporting requirements. The project was delivered in two phases, the first phase to address the issue in relation to London’s regulatory environment and the second phase to apply to Jersey’s. Each phase was completed successfully, well within the allocated timeframe and budget and provided internally consistent reporting for the first time…

All nine schools are rated exemplary—the highest designation possible—in the state of Texas accountability ratings, marking the second consecutive year they have achieved this feat.At Eanes ISD, excellence extends beyond the classroom to the IT department, which strives to use technology as effectively as possible to support the goals of the district.
“Like many school districts, we’re affected by budget shortfalls and cuts in education funding,” says Carl Hooker, virtualization coordinator at Eanes ISD. “When it comes to IT assets like our desktops, we need to extend their life so that teachers and students don’t have to do without access to Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer and other applications that they’ve come to depend upon.”… Read more..
