Obtaining external support for our various environmental initiatives has proved invaluable in keeping us on track and ensuring that we have all the necessary systems in place.
- Keith Fulton, Environmental Management, Coordinator, Griffin Press.

Part of PMP Limited – a leading provider of printing services in Australia and New Zealand – Griffin Press was approved by Lloyds Register Quality Assurance Limited to the Environmental Management System: AS/NZS ISO 14001:2004 in 2009. The Adelaide business was nominated as the lead site to gain ISO 14001 accreditation for PMP’s 15 other printing sites; the entire group implements a wideranging program to achieve high levels of environmental sustainability. Case Study: How to Build an Environmental Management System

Creating an environmental management system (EMS) might seem like an overwhelming task, especially for a small or medium-sized company, but many of the elements needed for an EMS may already be in place at your facility. Such elements as your procedures to track environmental compliance or your state-required pollution prevention plans can be used directly to give you a significant head start for developing your EMS. Many printed wiring board (PWB) manufacturers are paying particular attention to EMSs, since they are the basis of ISO 14001 certification.

One company, H-R Industries, found that their existing ISO 9000 Quality Managment Sytem gave them a significant advantage in ISO 14000 certification. H-R Industries became the first PWB manufacturer in the U.S. to obtain ISO 14001 certification. The company was established in 1976 and is a wholly owned subsidiary of McDonald Technologies, Inc. With approximately 300 employees at facilites in Richardson and Bonham, Texas, the compnay produces a wide range of multilayer boards.

CW’s EMS encompasses all of its operations and is notable for the significant support and involvement of senior management in the EMS.
This Case Study tells the story of how CW, recognizing the range of environmental and organizational benefits that its EMS provides, decided to explore with Fitch Ratings the effect that its EMS might have on an improved bond rating. Read More
