A Case Study on Reclaming the Right of Way

A Case Study about Reclaming the Right of Way

The purpose of the Parklet Toolkit (toolkit) is to provide city staff and community members with practical guidance to support the development of small-scale parks, called parklets. Parklet programs and projects are spreading quickly across the nation, from San Francisco to New York and other cities profiled in the toolkit. This decision support toolkit is designed specifically to facilitate the development f parklet projects in the city of Los Angeles and encourage a parklet program that creates an institutionalized pathway for their installation.

Case Study on Reclaming

Despite the focus on Los Angeles, the program case studies, project guidelines, and other best practices presented in this toolkit are easily transferable to other communities across the nation. This toolkit begins with an introduction to parklets, including the definition of parklets and a summary of their use, value, and precedents. Next, Chapter 2 provides context for parklets in Los Angeles. This chapter highlights activities that led to current efforts to re-purpose streets, re-energize public spaces, and insert physical activity opportunities into the urban environment. Keep reading…

Case Study of a Successful Industry Collaboration: Sustainable Apparel Coalition

Case Study about a Successful Industry Collaboration: Sustainable Apparel Coalition

Executive Summary: The Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC) seeks to lead the apparel industry toward a shared vision of sustainability built upon a common approach for evaluating sustainability performance. By developing a common tool – the Sustainable Apparel Index – the SAC enables apparel industry companies to measure the environmental and social impact of apparel production throughout the product lifecycle. The potential impact of the Sustainable Apparel Coalition is enormous; SAC member companies (including brands, retailers, and manufacturers) are estimated to be responsible for more than one third of the apparel and footwear produced globally. This case study documents the development of the SAC and how it was able to successfully create an industry-wide sustainability index, in order to share best practices and translate lessons learned across other industries.

Case Study on Industry Collaboration

The Sustainable Apparel Coalition seeks to redefine ‘business as usual’ and craft best practice sustainability standards for the apparel industry. This commitment to leadership significantly influenced the Apparel Index, which includes cutting edge social and environmental practices for companies to aspire to. In addition, individual leadership and passion are essential to SAC’s work, as they help generate excitement and sustain momentum in the face of the inevitable challenges of collaboration. A Study on Cognitive Biases in Human Perception, Judgment, and Decision Making

A Study about Cognitive Biases in Human Perception, Judgment, and Decision Making

Scientific research into human cognition is well established by decades of rigorous behavioral experimentation, studies of the human brain, and computer simulations. All of these converge to provide scientific insights into perception, judgment, and decision making (Dror & € omas, 2005; Kosslyn & Koenig, 1995). Many of these theoretical insights play an important role in our understanding of how humans behave in the real world. € e scientific research has important bearings on how human perception, judgment, and decision making can be enhanced, as well as how both lay people and experts can (and do) make mistakes.

Case Study on Human Perception

Bridging scientific theory to the real world can assist our understanding of human performance and error and help us evaluate the reliability of humans. Furthermore, it has implications on how to minimize such error through proper selection and training, best practices, and utilizing technology (Dror, 2007, in press). In this chapter, scientific ndings about human cognition are discussed and linked to practical issues in the real world of investigations. Keep reading…

A Study Report on Diversity Report

A Study Report about Diversity Report

The IFA Educational Foundation conducted a study of a broad cross-section of IFA member franchise systems to identify companies with formalized diversity programs. Specifically, the Foundation sought to identify companies with a strategic plan incorporating diversity issues in the workplace and marketplace, with specific minority outreach programs, advertising and marketing programs targeted to minority groups, and formal diversity training programs for their employees and franchisees.

Case Study on Diversity Report

The Foundation then retained Richard Willard, president of Management Resources International, to develop case studies of companies with best practices in these specific areas. This report is the result of the research work and interviews conducted by Mr. Willard with the companies that volunteered to participate in the study. Keep reading…

A Case Study on Quality Improvement: Assurance to Improvement

A Case Study about Quality Improvement: Assurance to Improvement

Quality improvement (QI)—a process by which state and local health agencies use data to improve programs, policies, and health outcomes—can help create learning organizations that are adaptable and effective in the current public health environment. If done poorly, QI can have negative connotations that only work to create tension between and within state and local health departments.

Quality Improvement Case Study

The Florida Department of Health has worked hard to successfully build a QI system that emphasizes a collegial approach and encourages sharing of information and best practices. keep reading…

A White Paper of Value of Nursing Care Coordination

A White Paper about Value of Nursing Care Coordination

Executive Summary: Care coordination has been proposed as a solution to many of the seemingly intractable problems of American health care: high costs, uneven quality, and too frequent disappointing patient outcomes. More resources are devoted to health care per capita in the United States than in any other nation, yet our fragmented system is often characterized by communication failures and non-beneficial or redundant healthcare tests and services. This results in an unacceptable risk of error and an increase in cost, in terms of both resources and human suffering.

Case Study on Nursing Care Coordination

Introduction: Care coordination is foundational to the health care reform goals of improving the quality of care for individuals and populations via the efficient and effective use of resources. The increased complexity of care, growing numbers of patients with chronic disease, and exploding health care costs heighten the need for better integration of care without increased expenditures (Robinson, 2010). Very convincing evidence indicates that uncoordinated care greatly increases health carecosts, but there is still a need to identify “best practices” and describe models and interventions that achieve patient-centered, high-quality care. keep reading on Nursing Care Coordination

A Case Study on Performance Evaluation in a Matrix Organization

A Case Study about Performance Evaluation in a Matrix Organization

Abstract: Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine and ultimately suggest the most effective method with which to evaluate employees operating within a matrix organization. The paper aims to demonstrate the tools, corporate participation and acceptance levels required in order to ensure employee and manager ‘‘buy in’’ and implementation. Design/methodology/approach – This paper consists of a comprehensive review of literature demonstrating functional areas within matrix organization as well as employee evaluation methods within various organizations. It is presented in three sections, defining a matrix organization, demonstrating effective evaluation methods and strategies, and finally showing how the two should work together. Critical incidents are interspersed throughout the article in order to demonstrate how the research compares to the methods employed by a leading aviation engineering firm.

Case Study in Performance Evaluation

Introduction : The objective of this three-part article is to understand the most effective method with which to review the functional performance of employees within a matrix organization. Through a review of the literature, we will attempt to identify the ‘‘best practices’’ in performance appraisals in the instances where an employee reports to one, manager, but functionally performs for another. This has been an enigma and challenge since the inception of the matrix. How is consistency in evaluation ensured? Making certain that there is a consistency in the standards that are applied to employees during the evaluation process, and that the criteria it takes into consideration is relevant to the industry (Grehan, 2002), it is important to understand if employees in a matrix organization are adequately reviewed when it comes to their performance evaluation. keep reading..
