A Case Study on Decision Quality for Sustainability Assessment

A Case Study about Decision Quality for Sustainability Assessment

Introduction:~ Sustainability assessment, also termed integrated assessment, is a generic term that applies to a wide range of ex-ante impact assessment processes whose main aim is to direct a decision-making process towards sustainability outcomes (Hacking and Guthrie 2008). Sustainability assessment is often considered the „third generation‟ of impact assessment, following environmental impact assessment (EIA) and strategic environmental assessment (SEA).

Case Study on Sustainability Assessment

Impact assessment processes, including sustainability assessment, may often be distinct from and supplementary to the planning and decision-making process. To ensure that the impact assessment process has maximum influence, it has been argued that impact assessment practitioners should first understand how the decision-making process works in practice, in order to provide relevant information at key points in the decision-making process. A Case Study on Growth of Indian Agriculture

A Case Study about Growth of Indian Agriculture

Introduction:~ Information and knowledge on the level of agricultural development below the state level is prerequisite to design policy measures for development of backward regions. The available study on agricultural development at the district level analysis by Bhalla and Singh (2001) covers the period from 1962/5 to 1990/3 only. Almost a decade has passed since than. A number of significant developments have occurred since then. Numerous policies and programs have been initiated in Indian economy under the ongoing processes of liberalization and globalization (under the GATT/WTO agreement). The main aim of the proposed study is to assemble district level evidence for a broader assessment of development and growth in Indian agriculture for the latest period 2001/2-2003/4, the period for which the latest district level data is available.

Case Study on Growth of Indian Agriculture

However, before embarking on to examine the performance of agriculture growth across districts in India it would be worthwhile to have a macro overall view of the Indian agriculture. A broad overview of emerging trends and tendencies in wake of the recent developments following the processes of liberalization and globalization of Indian economy since early 1990s, expected to equip us in better understanding of the emerging district level spatial pattern and dynamics in the Indian agriculture. A Case Study on Rural Income Generating Activities

A Case Study on Rural Income Generating Activities

Introduction: A major component of the Rural Income Generating Activities (RIGA) study was to construct comparable income measures from selected multi-purpose household surveys (see table in Annex I). The aim of the exercise was to provide annualized benchmark aggregates spanning four continents which, despite pervasive differences in the quality and level of information available in each survey, would be suitable for cross-country analysis. The objective of this document is to describe the methodology used in constructing the household income aggregates and their components included in the RIGA database.

Case Study on Income Generating Activities

Section II of this report discusses the general principles underlying the estimation of income aggregates. Section III describes the different components and breakdowns of our income measures and discusses some of the methodological issues behind their construction. The final section of the document describes the data transformations and imputation procedures applied. More country-specific methodological issues and idiosyncratic adjustments are addressed in Annex IV. Keep reading…

A Case Study of Urban Particle Acidity and Its Influence on Secondary Organic Aeroso

A Case Study about Urban Particle Acidity and Its Influence on Secondary Organic Aeroso

Size-resolved indicators of aerosol acidity, including H+ion concentrations (H+ Aer) and the ratio of stoichiometric neutralization are evaluated in submicrometer aerosols using highly time-resolved aerosol mass spectrometer (AMS) data from Pittsburgh. The pH and ionic strength within the aqueous particle phase are also estimated using the Aerosol Inorganics Model (AIM). Different mechanisms that contribute to the presence of acidic particles in Pittsburgh are discussed.

Case Study on Urban Particle Acidity

The largest H+ Aer loadings and lowest levels of stoichiometric neutralization were detected when PM1 loadings were high and dominated by SO4 2-. The average size distribution of H+ Aer loading shows an accumulation mode at Dva 600 nm and an enhanced smaller mode that centers at Dva 200 nm and tails into smaller sizes. The acidity in the accumulation mode particles suggests that there is generally not enough gas-phase NH3 available on a regional scale to completely neutralize ulfate in Pittsburgh. The lack of stoichiometric neutralizat ion in the 200 nm mode particles is likely caused by the relatively slow mixing of gas-phase NH3 into SO2-rich plumes containing younger particles. A Case Study of Pothia Block in Kishanganj District

A Study about Pothia Block in Kishanganj District

Indira Awas Yojana (IAY) is a boon for the people who have no shelter and who generally belong to below the poverty line (BPL) segment of population. IAY (1985-86) comes as a relief for them by providing them with financial assistance for construction of houses. At present it is the flagship programme of the government for rural housing. On 1 st April, 1996 IAY was introduced as an independent scheme. Before  this it was combined with RLEGP and NREP. It is a centrally initiated scheme with cost sharing of 75:25  between the Centre and the state.

Case Study on Pothia Block

This scheme is not only for people under BPL but also for households headed by SC/ST, freed bonded labourers, unmarried women and widows. Under the plan, the allocation of the houses is done in the name of the female member of the benefited family or in the joint names of husband and wife. The study of IAY in our area of study-Pothia block of Kishanganj district was done with the aim of developing a comprehensive understanding of the IAY and examining its working. Keep reading…

A Study on Power, Control and Organisational Learning

A Study about Power, Control and Organisational Learning

Abstract:~ A case study of a bank illustrates that organisational learning can be based on a structured social construction of cognitive homogeneity which generates an increase of control and enhances power of the management by reinforcing the legitimacy of decisions. However, this case study also shows that learning and non-learning are the two faces of the same process or, in other words, that organisational learning can produce unawareness and unintentional nonlearning by too much cultural uniformity.

Case Study on Organisational Learning

Introduction:~ The aim of this paper is to provide a critical examination of underlying processes involved in applications of organisational learning theory, i.e. some interventionists’ conception of the learning organisation. It presents a three-fold sociological analysis. In the first part, managerial organisation theory and consultants’ writings within the interpretative perspective of organisational learning processes will be reviewed and analysed. Then a theoretical framework based on concepts such as power, domination and control will be proposed. In a third part, empirical work will be reviewed, in order to illustrate the processes by which some unanticipated and unwelcome consequences of the very act of building a learning organisation can appear in the long run. Case Study Approach to Work Stress Prevention in Europe

Case Study Approach about Work Stress Prevention in Europe

Work stress has become a major issue among European employees. The current practice of its prevention seems disappointing, as work stress prevention pro- grammes are predominantly reactive and biased to the individual. The lack of organization-level intervention studies is a barrier to progress in reducing work-related stress.

Case Study on Work Stress Prevention

In addition to the “true experimental approach”, multiple case studies may provide an adequate research strategy for addressing the potential impact of stress interventions in organizations. The study aim was to obtain more knowledge with respect to evidence-based work stress prevention in Europe, by focusing on both content (cause–effect relationships) and process. Keep reading…

A Case Study on Electoral Behavior

Case Study for Electoral Behavior

Scholarly studies of electoral behavior have a long and vibrant history. My aim here is to provide a selective summary of that history, focusing on developments that seem to me to have been especially important in shaping the current contours of the field. Since new preoccupations and insights have usually emerged as responses to salient past successes and failures, the organization of my survey is largely (though not entirely) chronological

Case Study on Electoral Behavior

I have, of course, ignored many important contributions and elided many relevant details. That is inevitable, given limitations of space and of my own expertise. Fortunately, much of what is missing here is handsomely addressed in other chapters of this volume. In any event, my hope is that the range of scholarship touched upon in the following pages will provide some sense of the richness and significance of what has been accomplished by scholars of electoral behavior over the past 70 years, while also inspiring the scholars who chart the mainstream of electoral research in the future to tackle some of the many fundamental issues that remain unresolved. Case Study on Uganda Apiculture Export Strategy

Case Study about Uganda Apiculture Export Strategy

Executive Summary: This strategy seeks to develop and promote the export of apiculture products from Uganda. It highlights the needs and interests of all the stakeholders with the primary aim of promoting trade in apiculture products, giving priority to the export markets especially the EU, one of Uganda’s leading export markets. Honey, the major apiculture product is produced in nearly all countries of the world.

Case Study on Uganda Apiculture Export Strategy

Total world production in 2003 was estimated at 1,200,000 MT per annum, valued at US$ 452 million. However, only about 400,000 MT of the honey is traded in the export market annually, implying a dominance of domestic markets within the producing countries (about 67%). The major importers of honey are EU (150,000 MT p.a), USA (100,000 MT p.a), and Japan (50,000 MT p.a). USA alone consumes about 45% of the globally traded honey. The top exporters are China (100,000 MT p.a), Argentina (70,000 MT p.a), Mexico (40,000 MT p.a) Australia, India, Canada and New Zealand (P. Martin, 2004). Exports from Developing countries represent 60% of world exports (ITC Interactive Trade Map). The trend in world’s supply has continued to rise, but the earnings have declined by about US$ 20 million.  Keep reading..

A Study on World Bank Climate Investment Funds

A Study about World Bank Climate Investment Funds

Introduction: Recent years have seen the World Bank brand itself with two new images: a green “climate bank” ready to tackle tough environmental challenges, and a “gender equality bank” leading the struggle for women’s rights. In September 2008, the World Bank Board approved a Strategic Framework on Climate Change and Development with the stated aim of helping poor countries overcome development obstacles posed by climate change.

Case Study on Climate Investment Funds

Earlier in the fall of 2006, the Bank launched a Gender Action Plan defining “gender equality as smart economics.” 2 Both initiatives ignited a certain amount of pomp and circumstance; as finance ministers around the globe passed torches for gender equality, filmmakers flooded YouTube with entries for a World Bank Film Contest on Climate Change.3 Publicity was plenty and widespread.
