The order picking and handling of domestic radiators has traditionally been a manual operation principally due to the sizes, shapes and weights of the product. In moving to a new purpose built production facility with high levels of automation, the Quinn Group took the opportunity to assess whether order picking could also be automated.
The task of manually picking and building loads on despatch pallets is highly reliant on operator skill and experience. There was (and is) uncertainty looking to the future of being able to employ sufficient staff together with greater concern about health and safety issues related to long term lifting relatively heavy items and the rising cost of employment.
