Nearly a century of industrial activity in and around Bellingham Bay caused widespread sediment contamination that posed a threat to both the environment and the plans for a redevelopment of the Bellingham waterfront. The firm was jointly retained by a group of potentially liable parties, including the Georgia Pacific Corporation, the City of Bellingham, the Port of Bellingham, and the Washington Department of Natural Resources–Aquatic Lands Division, to facilitate a collaborative, voluntary cleanup of contaminated sediments in Bellingham Bay.
