In order to select the systems and equipment for use in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) of a hospital, it is necessary to hypothesise the actual flow and ease of use for coping with each medical case, and to conduct an ample number of simulations. So in 2011, Paramount Bed Co., Ltd. established the “Medical Design Studio” in Hongo, Tokyo, as a simulation space that meets the needs of various medical sites.
The company considered the feasibility of studio utilisation, including use for remote hospitals, but a number of hurdles had to be passed. Because the systems and equipment for critical care, such as those in the ICU, are large in scale and highly complicated, they are difficult to move around. It is also difficult to adjust the schedules of the people who need to be involved in sales talks.
