If you’re not keen on donning a snorkel and mask and taking the plunge, then Aquasearch Aquarium on Magnetic Island is the best way to see the region’s colourful corals, giant clams and dazzling reef creatures up-close and personal. It’s the Island‘s only marine viewing display and is owned and operated by Dr. Rick Braley, a world expert on giant clams. The aquarium features 24 year old/85 kilogram aqua cultured giant clams as well as cultured clown anemone fish (think Finding Nemo), other fish and invertebrates. There’s a giant clam touch tank, and the opportunity to do a lab tour, to view specimens under the microscope and see a video. General and special educational tours are offered.
