Agrium, based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, is a leading global manufacturer and wholesaler of agricultural nutrients, industrial products and specialty fertilizers, with major agricultural retail interests in North and South America. The company achieved total sales of more than US$4 billion in 2006, and employs over 6,500 people. Agrium is planning to grow significantly over the next three years through expansion into new markets and the acquisition of new businesses – for example, the company is currently building a new production facility in Egypt. Agrium’s IT team realized its existing infrastructure would not be capable of scaling to support the resulting increase.
