“We’ve moved the whole factory around and have seen a marked improvement in productivity with much better control. We were always working hard but the system wasn’t right and needed to change. MAS helped us do this. Our staff are now much more forward thinking and the company is exceptionally well positioned to take advantage of the new business opportunities coming our way.“
- Katalin Parry, Company Secretary, MC Logistics Ltd.
Challenge: The challenge lay in ensuring staff were engaged in the company’s determination to improve the way the business operated. This involved analysing the use of space, methods of working and production control then looking at how more could be produced whilst maintaining the same levels of delivery performance. There was also a need to better manage cost control…
Action: The management and the workforce were given training in lean awareness and the eight wastes. Then a core team created a current state, value stream map with a video used to review key tasks. From this, several opportunities to improve the layout, organisation of tools and movement of material were identified and gave the potential to reduce time spent making crates. The shop floor layout was streamlined, creating more space. When this was completed, the team then moved on to review production planning and established a visual planning board, which is now reviewed daily at the start of each shift.
