The project “New Technology-Based Approach to Advance Higher Volume Fly Ash Concrete with Acceptable Performance” that was completed in August 2008. The project was sponsored by the Department of Energy through the Combustion Byproducts Consortium and the RMC Research & Education Foundation. The project addressed one of the major barriers to the large scale use of high-volume fly-ash (HVFA) concrete, namely the lower rate of early-age strength development compared with ordinary portland-cement concrete.
