A Case Study about Factory Operations
Background: A weekend fire at a manufacturing plant in Arkansas, caused extensive smoke and water damage to this factory that produces laboratory surfaces for research, educational and healthcare use. The fire began in the three-story tower area where resins are mixed. With the tower area in the center of this plant that is all under one roof, the entire 155,000-square-foot facility sustained damage.
Challenges: To fill back-orders, the factory could not stop its round-the-clock production. How could fabrication continue during cleanup without any soot, debris or cleaners falling onto their countertops? How long would it take to remove resins in the tower area? Hardened by the fire, resin now hung from the ceiling in three foot chunks and added a rock-like layer to handrails, catwalks and every surface it touched.
